How to Help in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS

South Africa remains the epicenter of the global HIV pandemic with an estimated 7.7 million people living with HIV, and we all have a role to play in curbing the spread. Here’s how to take action.

Say yes to the test

It is estimated that a large percentage of people are living with HIV but unaware of it. If you are HIV positive, knowing your status provides the opportunity to get treatment that could extend your life and prevent your partners from contracting the condition. So make an HIV test a part of your regular check-ups, and encourage your loved ones to do the same.

Be informed

HIV education saves lives by equipping individuals with the information needed to reduce their risk of getting infected. Know the facts so you can speak and act from a place of knowledge, make better decisions about your well-being and empower those around you to do the same.

Spread the word, not the virus

Speak up to build support for the cause - at home, among friends, in your community, on social media - anywhere that provides an opportunity to raise awareness. Share messages that promote preventative measures, encourage testing and highlight the need to reduce prejudice against those who have the virus.

Contribute towards the cause

Volunteer at an HIV/AIDS organization in your area, help raise money, make a tax-deductible donation or simply purchase (and wear) an inexpensive red AIDS ribbon to show support and solidarity towards the millions of people living with the disease.
Together, we can make our communities stronger, healthier and safer.
